Will I get seasick?
This is something I have personally been asking myself. My friend who has been on several cruises said no way because the ship is so big it doesn't even seem like you are moving. But getting seasick still worries me. When I was much younger I went deep sea fishing on a smaller vessel and got extremely sick. So I started doing some research to help myself and provide you all with some information.
From what I hear most people don't get sick on big vessels like The Music Boat because they don't move around as much. But there are several preventative things we can do ahead of time to keep from getting sick.
1. Pick up a preventative such as the following:
Accupressure wrist-band- This drug free option works for most, but not all people. The "Sea band" is highly rated.
Scopalamine Patch- This is the most popular prescription medicine to prevent seasickness. The patch can only be worn 3 days at a time.
Over-the-counter-pills: Dramamine-type anti-nausea pills go under various names such as Marezine, Bonine, Phenergen, and sea calm. They sometimes make you feel drowsy, but don't have the side affects like Scopalamine. Take them before you feel sick.
Ginger- Yes, really. Sailors swear by it. Ginger Candy is a tasty option. Or visit the sushi bar and grab some pickled ginger.
2. Choose a low and central cabin, with a window or balcony. The closer you are to the ships center of gravity the less you will move around. If you start feeling sick looking at the horizon helps your sense of balance.
3. Watch what you eat and drink. I am personally excited about all the food on the cruise! Just eat and drink alcohol in moderation. Over consumption won't help your stomach.
If you start to feel seasick while on the cruise here are a few things you can do to help:
1. Go outside and look at the horizon. It will help your body regain a sense of reference and balance.
2. Ginger. Eat it! Refer to above.
3. Eat dry crackers and green apples to help settle your stomach.
4. Visit the ships nurse. Reconsider the over-the-counter-pills.
Well, let's just pray that none of us get seasick, but now we know a few things to do to help prevent it and what to do if we do get sick. Plan ahead. The Music Boat is only 6 weeks away! See you all soon. -Kalel
