AA Talks! Interview with my friend Will McGinnis

As promised here is the interview with my friend Will McGinnis of Audio Adrenaline and the new Audio Talks. Audio Adrenaline won two Grammy awards, multiple Dove awards, sold over 3 million albums, and had 18 number singles. Will and Mark Stuart were the ones who gave me and Pillar a shot by signing us to their record label Flicker Records about 10 years ago. You can hear the audio of Will answering these questions by clicking play below!

Its been awhile so what have you been up to lately?

Mark and I are doing this new thing called, Audio Talks, and you know it is really cool because we feel like God’s just prepared us for this new season, and He’s given us so many stories and so many testimonies to tell about His great love and mercy. So, in this new season, as Audio Talks, Mark and I go out and we’re taking a full band, and we intertwine worship with our story. Basically kind of a story-teller’s version of Audio Adrenaline, and it’s been going great. We get to tell some stories about the songs. We try to be vulnerable and tell some of the highs and tell some of the lows during our career as Audio Adrenaline. God’s just been using it. We also play worship - have 3 of the people who lead worship from our church come along with us to help us lead worship and just praise God for what He is doing and try to encourage and exhort the church, so, it’s been a really cool thing.

How is your family doing?

My family is doing great. My oldest boy, Satchel, is going to be 10 in February. My middle daughter, Addyson, is 7, and my youngest boy, Falon, is going to be 6 in March. So, they are getting big, and God has really shown me a lot through these kids, and through being a father, a daddy. I never had a great dad, but my Abba Father, was always there for me, and I am trying to be what God is for me to my kids. It is difficult some days, but God gives a lot of grace, and my kids certainly give a lot of grace, and I love them dearly.

Are you and Mark still involved with The Hands and Feet Project?

We certainly are still involved with the Hands and Feet Project. The Hands and Feet Project was truly one of the greatest things that God ever allowed us to do. You know we traveled all over the world as Audio Adrenaline. We won Grammys, Doves, we saw about every corner of the world, but the Hands and Feet Project to date, is still the coolest thing that God ever did through us. Some of the artists that are on board with this are We As Human, Hawk Nelson – you have heard of them, and there are several others that have just caught the vision and are out there being the champion and the spokesperson for the least of these – these orphans that are all over the world. So, it’s been really cool to see how God has used, you know, a vision He gave Audio Adrenaline to kind of grow bigger, way bigger than Audio Adrenaline would ever be, and to start helping kids all over the world. So that’s been amazing.

Have you been on The Music Boat or a cruise before?

We have been on the Music Boat, and we’re excited. I get to take my family and chill out in the sun. It’s been freezing here in Nashville. It’s about 18 degrees today here, in the middle of January, and we’re terribly excited to get on the Music Boat and get some sun, get some swimming in, and basically, just hanging out with you guys and spending a lot of time with the fans that come on the Music Boat. It’s an incredible time of just hanging out and getting to know people, and I think with this new thing, Audio Talks, it’s just going to be even more powerful because we’ll just be able to share these really cool stories and moments, and kind of spend the time with our fans that knew us as Audio Adrenaline and now will get to hear these stories and get to know a little more personal information about us as individuals and kind of what it was like when we were in Audio Adrenaline and what God did through the most unlikely of characters – Mark and I and the rest of the guys. Our story is that God uses the unlikely people. You know He uses the underdogs, He uses the folks that you wouldn’t call, “qualified,” to do His work, but that’s what’s really cool about God. So, we are excited to tell those stories on the Music Boat, and we can’t wait to hang out with you guys there.

So more importantly how have you been styling your hair lately? I remember the mohawk days.

My hair is basically really simple today. I was growing it out, and I just couldn’t take it anymore. You know how it goes through all of those phases where it’s really, you know, bad hair, bad hair all of the time, and you can’t take it anymore. So, basically, I just shaved it up really short and you know I basically have a buzz cut, so, nothing too interesting going on with the hair.

Please tell us how can we pray for you?

I want to thank Mike for asking about prayer requests, and basically, my family and I have been dealing with some stuff in our personal life for the last 3 or 4 years, since 2004-2005, and I would have you continue to pray for us. I really can’t be too specific about it, but just know that we have been dealing with some hardships, and hardships come to every family. We’re no different, and we would just covet your prayers and covet that we would see the will of God in our life real apparently in regard to this issue, and that God’s will would prevail and that He would be glorified through it, that we would be His ambassadors, even in some of the toughest times that we’ve experienced. I just want to say along with that, that Andrea and I and our family are well. Our marriage is awesome, and we couldn’t be happier on that end, but we could just covet your prayers in some of these other issues that we’re dealing with.

Be blessed. We can’t wait to see you guys. Kalel, you are awesome, you rock. We’ll catch you soon on the Music Boat. Peace.
